I think this would be P-51D, 44-74012, c/n122-40552, currently owned by James Smith, of Kalispell, Montana. This Mustang had served in the RCAF as 9243. It has carried the registrations N6518D, N6519D and C-GPSI. It was rebuilt following an accident which occurred in 1974, and now carries the registration N6519D again.

Looks like #27 is N6519D 44-74012 owned by Duane Williams of Kellogg, Idaho at that time and marked as "Rosie 1" named after his wife. This was the late Leroy Penhall former #81 Unlimited Racer active from 1969-1973 at Reno, Cape May, Mojave, San Diego, and Miami--if not the most competitive racer it was one of the prettiest and best detailed. Williams sold this P-51 to James Smith in Montana.

To whom it may concern,

As it is with a lot of people this plane has meaning to them for many different reasons. For me it reminds me of childhood. Growing up in Wisconsin, every summer my dad, brother and I would attend the EAA. We would camp out for the entire week. Pretty much every night my brother and I would sneak out on the flight line (sometimes with girls) and hang out around the Warbirds. A couple of times we even took our sleeping bags out and slept under the wing of some Warbird. Of all Warbirds I love the P-51 the most. The reason I am posting this message is to hopefully get in contact with the owner, James Smith. I now live in Kalispell, Montana where this plane is located and would love the opportunity to see this plane in person. So if anyone out there could help put me in contact with James I would appreciate it. My email is drinehart (at)
Thank you, David Rinehart
